Training the Administrators in the KIS Safety Risk Management Software use

Although a customised, simple to read software training manual comprised mainly of screen captures is provided with the purchase of each read/write license, some people prefer the one on one training in the programme's use. KIS Safety can provide this individual training and recommend that for every administrator trained there should be a second person trained as a back up for the system's continuance. This training can take as little as 4 hours depending on the computer literacy of the individual. We recommend no more than 2 people to a training session in this area due to individuals varied rates of learning. Click here to read more.

Introduction to Job Hazard Analysis Writing

We have found that in recent case studies that less than 20% of people within an organisation have been exposed to writing a Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) or Job Safety Analysis (JSA). This figure also applies to people having seen  a JHA or JSA. To overcome this problem and to raise awareness in the benefits of carrying out a JHA prior to a task commencing, we have developed a 4 hour training course to introduce your workforce as to the why, what, when and how in JHA writing. The feedback from the courses held to date has been extremely positive and comments such as "best course I have ever been on"; "now I fully understand what people are talking about"; "it makes a lot of sense when you think about it" have been received from the participants. The course is designed around the KIS JHA programme and it is held on your premises or your choice of venue with groups of no less than 5 and no more then 25. Click here to read more.

One of the major criticism's levelled at businesses today is that whilst a company may have procedures in place there has been no in-depth analysis of the tasks being carried out to provide the base from which the procedures have been written. Some businesses are operating with procedures copied from other organisations and under close examination bear no relevance to the equipment or environment in the current place of business. In sites where the KIS Safety System has been introduced, procedures had already been compiled over many years of operations. For the KIS Safety System to work effectively it requires a well structured JHA with a logical flow of the steps carried out within the task, the hazards encountered in each of the steps, a hazard risk ranking, the controls identified to eliminate or minimise the hazard and a final risk ranking with the controls in place as the base document. It is from this base document that all other documents and reports are generated. To achieve this in most cases the existing procedure has to be written backwards i.e. the existing procedure's steps listed and from the actions or controls the hazards identified. In doing this it saves the business from having to re-write all the tasks from scratch, saves valuable time and recognises previous knowledge relating to the procedures compilation. In this way we facilitate in the knowledge management retention of the organisation.

In today's modern businesses it is difficult to find time to carry out the above, so to overcome this  KIS Safety can provide your company with a Procedures to JHA input service where the initial JHA is drafted from your existing procedures, returned to your people for review and corrections and then in final draft submitted for sign off. It is interesting to note that one of the outcomes in this exercise is that it provides management with an overview of current work practices and areas where additional training may be required e.g. controls in place not implemented. Hazard Identification Training

We have found in our regular visits to organisations as well as feedback from our clients that their people have limited knowledge of how to identify a hazard in the workplace. Additionally once a hazard is identified their people are unsure of the correct process and policy compliance. To overcome this problem we have developed a 4 hour training course that is delivered in two parts:

1. Classroom training: that teaches the types of hazards that occur in the workplace, how to     identify them and the correct process to take when reporting a hazard. The training asks the student working within groups to determine the hazards in their work area and assists them in problem solving to apply their knowledge of the company’s policy and procedures for hazard reporting.

2. Workplace training: that takes the students on a walk through their work areas to actively identify hazards. The hazard reporting processes are reiterated and reinforced.

The course is held on your premises with groups of no less than 5 and no more than 25.  Click here to read more
